A Formula 1 car tearing through the bush

The ARC has rolled into the town of Forster on the NSW coast for the running of the Great Lakes Rally. A new addition to the calender this year it looks as though its going to be a very high speed rally and a big challenge for us photographers. At shakedown today huge clouds of dust followed every car and just hung in the air for ages. We were supposed to have a top temp of 28c today as well. The biggest challenge by far though was dodging the mozzies and huge leeches all intent on sucking the blood out of a snapper.

It was interesting to see Alistair McRae, ex-WRC driver and Colin McRae's brother in attendance today. He has just relocated to Perth WA and is competing in the Asia Pacific Rally Championship. Rumour has it he is looking to try and pick up a drive in the ARC as well.
He hitched a ride in both Neil Bates' Corolla and Michael Guests' Ford Fiesta. Alistair has already competed in two rounds of the NZ rally championship in 2007 as well.

I don't care what kind of motorsport you love but you really should get in the forest one day and check out the awesome Ford Fiesta Super 2000. Even us guys who are up close with all sorts of exotic racing machinery on a regular basis are impressed by the noise they make. My only description of them is that they sound like a Formula 1 car tearing through the bush, just brilliant.
